I believe in doing what you can–I’m not fully self sustaining although I’d like to get there someday. Until then, I don’t get myself down on what I’m not doing, and focusing and bettering the things I am doing!
Josephine lives with her husband, their two daughters, her husband’s two cats, and their flock of muscovy ducks (currently on hiatus as she focuses on coturnix quail) in the heart of Suffolk County, NY. Originally hailing from NYC, she became an avid food forest freak when she moved out here for college, and subsequently has stated that she will absolutely and positively die if she can’t be around greenery. She is slowly turning her property into a veritable edible landscape without the help of pesticides, herbicides, or artificial fertilizers, and enjoys posting her progress here. She is an amateur photographer so all the pictures you see on her website are taken by her.
Always trying to prepare for the zombie apocalypse, she can often often found tinkering in her garden or researching the next big thing that will take her and her family off the grid, much to her husband’s horror. Her love of growing things and the environment was nurtured by her parents, who own several Teak farms in Central America.
She hopes her posts will inspire others to think more self-sufficiently, because the sense of freedom and accomplishment it provides is priceless.
Josephine and her husband own a martial arts school in Bay Shore, NY. Visit them at the Long Island Aikikai during class hours.
