Wise Sage

Wise Sage
Sage (Salvia officinalis) is a wonderful culinary herb, especially as the weather gets colder and roasts and savory dishes become more frequent.
It’s a hardy perennial down to zone 5, so it’s a plant it and forget it sort of herb. It’s also not invasive, keeping itself bushy if you prune it regularly. I like to cut large twigs of it and hang it to dry above my wood stove so that I have enough to use all winter. It likes sun, but seems to be able to tolerate some shade, well drained soil is a must.
There are a few variations (like pineapple sage which smells like… well, pineapple!) but for hardiness where I am, common sage is probably the best.
